The Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has made plans to transform Alimosho, a densely populated area in Lagos, into a sustainable and efficient city.

Mukaila Sanusi, the deputy director of public affairs, said this in a statement released on Friday in Lagos.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, made this known during the final stakeholders meeting on the review of the Alimosho Model City Plan held on Thursday in Lagos.

Mr Olumide identified strategies such as high-density housing, affordable housing options, enhanced public transportation, and designated development areas included in the plan.

He said the government’s commitment to implementing the plan and ensuring collaboration among various agencies to achieve its objectives.

Also, the commissioner mentioned that the Lagos State government had restructured the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to enhance the city’s development.

He said this restructuring aimed to create a more efficient system for achieving the state’s livable, organised, and sustainable built environment.

Mr Olumide expressed his enthusiasm about the progress being made in developing urban plans for the state.

The commissioner said the rapid progress suggested that the government was actively working on creating blueprints for various parts of the city.

These plans, he noted, should guide future development in a way that benefits residents.

According to the statement, a group of consultants presented the revised plan and a briefing from a government official.

The plan included strategies for better housing options, including higher densification, regeneration, low-cost housing Schemes and enhanced public transportation.

Thirteen specific zones, including Ipaja, Amikanle, Egbeda, and Igando, would be focus areas for specific planning policies.

The permanent secretary of the Office of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluwole Sotire, said the 20-year plan aimed to develop strategies for transforming Alimosho Local Government Area into a model city of choice.
