An explosion has ravaged several shops along Olusesi Street in the Ifako-Ishaga area of Lagos workers and left many students found and workers stranded.

The explosion which happened in the early hours of Wednesday has led to the closure of the road leading to Iju Ishaga, causing further transportation disruptions. Adding to the turmoil, transporters have taken advantage of the situation to increase fares, exacerbating the already challenging cost of living crisis in the region.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported at the time of this report, thanks to the prompt response of operatives from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. According to eyewitnesses, the explosion was triggered by a gas leak from a shop along the road, debunking rumors suggesting other causes.

Margaret Adeseye, director of the Lagos State Fire Service, clarified that the explosion actually occurred at Agbado Road, Toyin Bus Stop, Iju Ishaga. She explained that the fire originated from a gas tanker which accidentally caught fire, leading to the explosion. However, efforts are underway to contain the situation and prevent further spread.

The Lagos State Fire Service urges the public to maintain a safe distance from the scene and avoid naked flames in the vicinity until the situation is fully under control.
