Nigerian musician Teniola Apala popularly known as Teni has clarified the reason behind her act of prostrating to greet Ibrahim Egungbohun Dende, popularly known as IBD Dende, a well-known businessman and socialite.

She faced criticism after posting a video of the gesture on her X account on Friday.

Many criticized her for showing respect to IBD Dende, especially in light of smuggling accusations against him.

On Saturday morning, Teni responded by stating that she was unaware of any illicit activities linked to IBD Dende.

She mentioned that the businessman had shown her kindness back in 2014, before her rise to fame, and she has respected him ever since.

She wrote, “[I] Met IBD [Dende] in 2014 and he was so good to me, even before I blew up. So when[ever] I see him, it’s always love.

“I honestly had no knowledge of any criminal activities associated with him. I do not support criminals, so let the law take its course.”
