The grand opening ceremony of the 2024 AFCON at the Stade Olympique Alessane Ouattara in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, was graced by a fascinating performance from Yemi Alade.
Dressed in a vibrant green Ankara print ensemble and gold ornaments, Alade joined forces with Egyptian rapper Mohamed Ramadan and Ivorian band Magic System to deliver a captivating performance of ‘Akwaaba,’ the official anthem for AFCON 2023.

On stage, Alade radiated joy, leaping and harmonizing seamlessly with Ramadan and Magic System. The songstress, expressing her excitement on social media before the performance, shared her longstanding desire since 2016 to participate in football ceremonies and emphasized the significance of prayer and manifesting one’s desires.
Calling the experience “a dream come true,” Alade expressed gratitude for the honor to perform at AFCON. Reflecting on her journey, she wrote, “Since 2016, I have desired to perform at the stadium for football ceremonies surrounded by hundreds of dancers and millions of people. 7 years later, I am performing at AFCON. It is indeed an honor and a dream come true. It is just the beginning! God bless my team.”
