The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria is set to conduct its West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) electronically, starting with computer-based exams (CBE) for private candidates in February.

WAEC’s Head of National Office, Mr. Amos Dangut, revealed the shift to CBE in line with global best practices, with objective tests becoming fully computer-based.

The essay and practical papers will be hybrid, incorporating on-screen questions and handwritten answers. Urban centers will host the exams, considering special needs candidates.

Registration begins on December 18, 2023, and a mock exam is scheduled for February 2024 to familiarize candidates with the new platform.

WAEC emphasizes the need for candidates to enhance their computer skills, anticipating a fully electronic exam system in the future.
