Our very own Starboy, Wizkid, turns 30 today. Ayo Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has graced the afro-beats scene over the last 10 years, and has taken Nigerian music to a whole new level!
The singer who came onto the scene in 2008, at the age of 18, dropped a single called ‘Mamiwata’. Although this particular track did not make head-waves, he still worked his way onto the Nigerian music scene. The industry has not seen anyone like Wizkid, since his arrival.
The young superstar has been recognized locally and internationally. Wizkid is known to make hits and pull the crowd. There is not one bad song by this afro-beat sensation, and he certainly knows how to own his position in the game.
In anticipation of his upcoming album, ‘Made in Lagos’, he has announced two new singles on his Instagram page, as he celebrates his 30th birthday today.

Over the years, he has gone from being EME Records shining star, to creating an empire of his own. It’s no lie that Wizkid has achieved greatness in the last 10 years of his career, and a lot of us have grown with him.
Listening to his music as a 15 year old, I knew he would last in the scene. As a music lover, I felt his presence not being one that would fade quickly. 10 years later, I am still listening and bopping to his songs, and watching him grow as an artist, is truly incredible. He has diversified his sound, collaborated with international acts. Wizkid has shown us that he can be and do so much more!
