Gov. Idris approves over N19 billion supplementary budget

On Wednesday, the N19,867,090,924:00 supplementary budget approved by the Kebbi State House of Assembly received the approval of Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris.

As soon as the state parliament handed the governor the additional budget, he quickly signed it into law at Government House in Birnin Kebbi.

Idris praised the assembly members for moving quickly to pass the law given its importance to the state and its citizens in a statement made shortly after signing the budget.

He said that the supplementary budget consisted of projects that had a direct bearing to the lives of Kebbi people, hence the need for the appropriation to cater for such needs.

“As a responsible government, we find it very necessary to request the State House of Assembly to give us approval of a supplementary budget to execute such projects to our people, this administration is driven by the people of Kebbi State.

“I must appreciate the support this administration is enjoying from the House of Assembly because this government had never asked the assembly to do something that they failed to do.

“You have supported us and we are very happy about that,” Idris said.

The governor attributed the cordial working relationship between the executive and the legislature to the calibre of people in the assembly as well as the zeal they had in mind to move the state forward irrespective of party differences.

He assured the members of his total support to the house, saying, “you have made us happy and we have no reason whatsoever not to make you happy.”

Mr Idris also expressed delight over the “vote of confidence” passed in his favour by the assembly members in view of what they described as “purposeful leadership, saying that he was not aware of the issue because he was out of the country when the event took place.”

In addition to promising to include every resident of the state in the execution of his official duties, the governor extended an invitation to the opposition parties, particularly the PDP, to work alongside him in creating a new Kebbi that would be the envy of everyone.

The governor was earlier informed by the assembly’s speaker, Mohammed Usman-Ankwai, that they had come to the government building to firstly congratulate him for winning the Election Petition Tribunal.

The triumph in the tribunal, he continued, “meant that the people, reaffirmed their faith in your management style and vision for the state.

“Your Excellency Sir, this Honourable House recognises the challenges faced during this legal process and it is with great admiration that we commend your reailliance, unwavering commitment and steadfast belief in the justice system.

“Your victory is not only a vindication of your mandate but also a victory of democracy itself. Under your few month’s leadership Kebbi has witnessed remarkable progress and development in various sectors.”

The speaker believed that the governor’s forward-thinking policies had a positive effect on people’s lives, encouraging growth and raising the standard of living for all.

The supplementary budget, according to Mr. Usman-Ankwai, is an essential tool that shows the governor’s commitment to meeting the state’s changing demands.
