Twenty-eight individuals have been admitted to hospitals, while four have succumbed to a recent diphtheria outbreak in Kano State.

The outbreak, as outlined in a statement on Thursday, occurred in villages within the Mingibir Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement from the Information Officer of the local government, Tasiu Dadin-Duniya, on Thursday, ‘Four children have lost their lives to diphtheria, and 28 children have contracted the illness in Kwarkiya, Kuru, Kunya, and Minjibir villages within the Minjibir Local Government Area.’

The Interim Management Officer of the local government, Muhammad Yakubu Kunya, has urged authorities and stakeholders to promptly provide assistance to Minjibir Local Government in order to safeguard the health of the communities.”

The statement said the District Head of the local government had also urged traditional rulers and Islamic scholars in the communities to stand up to enlighten the community and to pray for relief.
