This week, the Glo-sponsored program, African Voices Changemakers on CNN, will spotlight two Nigerian fashion icons, Dumebi Andrea Iyamah (label name: Andrea Iyamah) and Ruth Erikan James (label name: Veekee James) in a 30-minute feature.

Andrea Iyamah Dumebi, born on March 18, 1993, and raised in Lagos is the founder and CEO of the ‘Andrea Iyamah’ fashion label. At just seventeen, she launched her brand in Toronto. Her brand specializes in bridal, swimwear and ready-to-wear lines, and features a flagship store in Lagos.

Her clientele includes notable figures such as Michelle Obama, Kate Hudson, Gabrielle Union, Ciara, Issa Rae, and Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji.

Her swimwear line, which beautifully blends modern and African heritage styles, is particularly praised for its vibrant colours and elaborate patterns.

The second guest, Ruth Erikan James, hails from Akwa Ibom state in Nigeria. Her journey into fashion began in her childhood when her mother, a fashion designer, taught her the craft of sewing garments.

After further training, she launched her own fashion brand in 2019. She later established Veekee James Man, a men’s clothing store, while Shoprikan cater exclusively to women.

Over the years, both fashion brands have gained recognition for their exceptional designs, attracting clienteles of national and international celebrities.

Veekee James was recently praised for her designs for Nollywood actresses Osas Ighodaro and Uche Montana at the 2024 African Movies Viewers’ Choice Awards held last month.

African Voices airs on Saturday at 8.30 a.m., with a repeat broadcast at noon. On Sunday, there will be two additional repeats at 4.30 a.m., and at 7.00 p.m.
