The 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards was a celebration of African talent and creativity, spanning the worlds of entertainment and fashion.

Even hours after the event climaxed on Saturday night at the Eko Hotel in Lagos state, social media has continued to stay abuzz with some of the excitements from the red carpet to the grandeur of the award ceremony, which honoured Africa’s brightest talents.

Here are three unforgettable moments at the 2024 AMVCA captured by the News Digest:

Breath of Life Almost Wins It All at the AMVCA

Breath of Life, the 2023 cinematic masterpiece directed and produced by BB Sasore, beat formidable competition from A Tribe Called Judah, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti and The Black Book to win the Best Movie Category at the 2024 AMVCA.

The film traces the life of Timi, a young man who achieved remarkable academic success, mastered 16 languages and made history as the first African clergyman in the Church of England. Returning to Nigeria with his wife, Bridget, and their daughter, Timi’s peaceful life took a turn after an encounter with an angry mob led to the death of his family. Devastated by this loss, Timi renounced his faith in God. The narrative later introduces Elijah, a character who helps Timi rediscover his faith and purpose.

Breath of Life is rated a strong score of 7.5/10 on Rotten Tomatoes and was described as “a testament to the limitless potential of great storytelling when coupled with stellar execution” by Tony Asankmomah, a movie critic from GhMovieFreak.

Breath of Life proved to be such a successful production, securing eleven nominations at the 2024 AMVCA and eventually winning six categories: Best Movie, Best Director, Best Lead Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Sound Design.

On Saturday, Osas didn’t only embrace the event’s “Wearable Art” dress code but also dazzled in a dress that would have caught the attention of Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, and trend-watchers at the 2024 Met Gala red carpet.
