Youth Task Force distributes lockdown palliative to Abuja community

NEWS DIGEST – As part of efforts to assist Nigerians to endure the current lockdown, a Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Students Affairs, Nasir Sa’idu Adhama, Tuesday led a group of Nigerian Youth Task Force On COVID-19 (NYTFC) to flag off relief materials distribution in the FCT.

Adhama, who is also the national coordinator of the group told newsmen during an interview on Wednesday that the gesture was meant to compliment the efforts of the federal government’s Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 (PTF) and the FCTA in cushioning the effects of the sit-at-home order on the vulnerable population.

The distribution of bags of rice and other relief materials which started at Dakwa village also took place at Mpape area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The President’s senior assistant in company of many volunteers who are members of the NYTFC appealed to all Nigerians to support the measures put in place by the Presidential Task Force and the FCT Experts Committee, as a way of curbing the spread of the Corona Virus.

According to Adhama, “The various committees in the NYTFC earlier undertook a survey of these areas and established contact with community leaders who helped pinpoint the most vulnerable population that deserve these palliatives most.

“Whilst the FCT Chapter carried out the distribution for the FCT Area Councils, it is worthy to note that the Kaduna State Chapter of NYTFC had already commenced distribution of these materials earlier on Monday.

“Good spirited members of the NYTFC mobilised their funds together and purchased food items including 250 bags of rice alongside condiments that were shared in Dakwa, Kabusa, Pape and Utako localities of the FCT.

“We commend the brotherly effort of Nigerians in the private sector in assisting the Federal Government in this trying times. We are also calling for more support to the most vulnerable from other wealthy Nigerians.

“Amongst the volunteers that the NYTFC has deployed are well trained medical personnel with technical knowledge of the pandemic and strategies to curb its spread through proper medical sensitization.

“We recognize that the youth have a role to play in mobilising communities to come together and participate in fighting the virus.

“The youth task force is engaged in daily planning and online discussions with a view to sharing important updates and provide guidance to the public nation-wide on the impact of COVID-19 and combatting fake news.

“We are in frequent contact with Federal, State and Local Governments response teams alongside public health agencies, to provide our inputs on policy strategies in the pursuance of our commonly shared objectives.

“We want to use this opportunity to appreciate the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Health, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disasters and Social Development under Hon Minister Hajiya Safiya Farouk and the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 led by The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Mr Boss Mustapha, the Lagos State Government, the FCT Administration. We recognise the life saving efforts of our frontline healthcare workers that are helping to treat and contain fhe spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

“We also want to commend our NYTFC volunteers nationwide and encourage them to remain on their feet in this fight against COVID -19.

“We thank His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari for taking decisive actions to put a halt to the spread of the virus.”

While appreciating the group, the Chief of Dakwa Fulanin Gabas, Alhaji Ibrahim Dahiru, called on other wealthy Nigerians to support the poor Nigerians, especially in this period of lockdown.
