2019: Nigeria’s Young Aspirants, By Adamu Yahaya

NEWS DIGEST – How easily can you discard a weed planted, watered and fertilized by exploitation, short-circuited conscience, illiteracy and in fact stationed poverty? Certainly, it will take more than mere NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN singsong for our youths to gain their way into governance corridor in the adventurous journey of bringing back the nation’s lost glory. But have we ever had a glory? The answer to this question is a subject of arbitrary, other than that, the answer is no I don’t think so.

Anyone relying on the unreliable, even with politically motivated statistics suggesting youths constitutes 70 percent of our national voting strength to ride on should contact Fmr. President Goodluck Jonathan for counseling on ‘electoral lost management’. Or better still, simply forget the pipe dream. However, there might be demographic advantage that poses to be in our advantage.

Unfortunately, most youths don’t believe in themselves. People like Omoyele Sowore should get the clear message that social media popularity doesn’t negotiate for political victory in Nigerian chapter of play, especially when vying for the highest office.

Ours is to field the game for the longevity of our long term oppressors, the predators of our collective destiny. We do this unknown to the fact that we are merchandising not only the struggle of securing a stake in leadership but the future and prosperity of the country. Somehow, Nigerian youths share same mental block with peasants whom would sells off all farm produces to foreign buyer with the desire of making super gain at the risk of living in hunger for the next one year.

In every four years, youths frustration and misery are renewed by the undisciplined attitude of selling out mandates. So, as Ahmed Bee goes to Lagos streets to set a jingle, he equally needs to pay homage to IMF to get some facility. Whether or not we agree, Nigerian democracy is a political marketplace for the highest bidders.

Aside that, there will be need to build a formidable political structure or lease an existing one- either of the two doesn’t come without a huge cost. I shouldn’t even go talking about logistics and other election expenses that will daunt even the most herculean. Also, considering the fact that aspiring for Nigerian President is a multi-billion naira project, I ask without the remotest sense of pessimism: who will provide the funds needed?

We know already that our naira and kobo obsessed youths would rather head to their addicted avenue to settle down for either ‘paraga’ or ‘codeine’ than to listen to any Shylock idiot asking them to contribute money in support of youth’s aspirations. All this while no one has winces effort in looking at the ethnic complexity of Nigerians in terms of politics. Even our own Prof. Pius Adesanmi was tested positive of this tendency in his implicit attempt to field Sowore over other young aspirants . No one seems to have demonstrated the concrete peculiarity in relation to the dynamics and intrigues of our politics among of the youths presidential aspirants.
