The presidency has issued a statement in response to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s decision to announce former Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello, as a wanted individual.

In a tweet posted on Thursday, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, urged Bello to surrender himself to the authorities.

“Yahaya Bello, where will you run to? It’s better you submit yourself to the EFCC and get a good lawyer,” he wrote.

The EFCC had issued a public notice seeking information on the whereabouts of former Kogi State governor.

According to a post on its social media handles, the anti-graft commission said Bello is wanted in connection with alleged economic and financial crimes amounting to N80.2 billion.

Anybody with information as to his whereabouts should report immediately to the Commission or the nearest Police Station,” the EFCC stated.

Bello was hurriedly removed from his residence in Abuja yesterday by his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, as EFCC agents surrounded his home.

Responding to this, the EFCC cautioned that impeding the commission’s officers in the execution of their legal duties constitutes a criminal act.

Additionally, the Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, urged Bello to surrender to the EFCC, warning that failure to do so may prompt the involvement of the military by the Federal Government.
