This was stated by TUC President Festus Osifo during a Monday news conference in Abuja regarding the status of the country.
He claims that the TUC was never involved in the process, meeting, or announcement by the NLC to start a street protest against the company’s financial difficulties.
However, for the new national minimum wage to become law, Osifo demanded that urgent talks about it take place.
The head of the TUC bemoaned the rising rates of hunger and adversity that the masses of Nigerians, including workers, were facing.
He claimed that early adoption and strict enforcement of the new minimum wage by the public and private sectors would boost workers’ disposable income and, consequently, their purchasing power.

He said that over the previous few weeks, the Congress had investigated the underlying reasons of the nation’s economic problems and had come up with potential remedies to ease the situation.
Osifo identified uncontrolled naira devaluation and insecurity across the country as the major causes of the economic challenges.
He said TUC had proposed immediate, medium-term and long-term solutions to the challenges.
The solutions according to him, included, fixing the real value of the naira, deliberate steps to address the allegation that sub-nationals throw billions of dollars monthly into the parallel market and dollarisation of political party primaries and electioneering.
Among other things, the solutions included enforcing stricter regulations against speculative trading in the foreign exchange market, supporting Nigerian-made products, bolstering the Economic Management Team, and reducing the theft of crude oil.
According to him, the congress thought that the problems currently faced by Nigerian workers and the oppressed would eventually be resolved when all of the above-mentioned solutions were put into practice.
He declared that the TUC would present the document to the government to discuss how to create an implementation framework with them.
