Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, has refuted the widely-circulated rumor that Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, the secretary to the state government, was fired following a disagreement with him.

The SSG is currently out of the country in Saudi Arabia seeking medical attention while the Head of Civil Service, Abdullahi Musa was directed to hold the office in acting capacity.

Since then, there has been a lot of news on social media, particularly from opposition party members, indicating that the two got into a fight over the arrest of the governor’s senior special assistant who was discovered stealing food intended for the sick and disadvantaged.

The public prosecution of the SSA, who was thought to be from the SSG quarters, infuriated his employer, who subsequently lodged a grievous complaint with the governor.

But reacting to the issue, the governor on Tuesday, shortly after swearing in of newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, said he neither sacked the SSG nor did he have any misunderstanding with him.

“Someone was saying that he was there when we engaged in two fighting. This is the highest level of ignorance but we pray God should relieve them.

“SSG is still there in his position unshakable and we are thankful to him for the kind of contributions he gave and hope when he returns he sustains the tempo.

“While Head of Service holds the position in his (SSG’s) absence doesn’t mean that he was sacked. We have not relieved him of his position,” the governor said.
