Shekarau picks APC membership card

NEWS DIGEST – A former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, has obtained the membership of his new party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Mr Shekarau formally declared his defection from opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to ruling APC, following PDP’s decision to cede control of the party to his arch-rival, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Mr Shekarau is a founding member and signatory to the merger documents that formed the APC.

He left the APC in 2014, following internal crisis at the state chapter of the party that saw to his losing control of the party structure to the then governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The former governor was accompanied by his political associates and party supporter to Giginyu Ward of Nassarawa Local Government Area on Sunday morning, where he picked the membership card at the ward level amid cheers.

Mr Shekarau is expected to vie for Kano Central Senatorial seat.
