The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has declared Monday, July 8, 2024, as a public holiday to mark the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1446AH.

This announcement, made by Commissioner for Informa

tion Prince Dotun Oyelade, recognizes the historical significance of Hijrah, commemorating Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD.

Oyelade emphasized that the holiday is a sign of respect and solidarity with the Muslim community, encouraging residents to use the day for prayer and reflection.

He urged unity and communal spirit, harping on the importance of peace and prosperity for both Oyo State and Nigeria.
