Senate postpones date for passage of 2020 Budget

NEWS DIGEST – The Senate President Ahmad Lawan has announced the postponement of the date for the passage into law the 2020 appropriation bill.

The News Digest reports that the Senate had fixed November 28 for the passage.

However, during Tuesday’s plenary, the chairman of the Senate committee on appropriations, Jibrin Barau, disclosed that the budget proposal was not ready, indicating the need for the hallowed chamber to give them more time.

Mr Lawan, in his response, gave the committee addition one week to tidy up the document for submission.

Responding, Lawan said the committee will be given another week to work on the bill.

The senate-president, therefore, mandated the committee to endeavour to submit the budget by Tuesday, after which the passage process would begin
