Protests Erupt Across Kano Over Emirates Dispute

A fresh round of protests has erupted in Kano amid the ongoing tussle for the royal throne between Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and the dethroned Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.

Around 4 p.m. on Sunday, young people took to the streets demanding the return of the dethroned monarch. Some protesters lit bonfires on major roads while chanting anti-government songs.

According to Daily Trust, policemen were present but did not attempt to disperse the protesters. The demonstration followed a special prayer session, with participants holding placards bearing messages such as “Abba Kabir Yusuf, Obey Court Order,” “Court Brought You,” “You Must Obey The Court,” “Aminu Is Still Our Emir,” and “We Are Against Injustice.”

Earlier on Sunday, it was reported that protesters also marched in Gaya, one of the disbanded emirates.
