President Buhari has praised Nigerian chef Hilda Baci for breaking the world record for the longest cooking marathon at the Amore Gardens in Lekki.

Hilda Baci, 27, has fed over 100 different meals to Garden supporters in over 99 hours of cooking since she started on Thursday.

Chef Lata Tondon of India established the previous record in 2019 at 87 hours and 45 minutes.

On Twitter, President Buhari referred to the 27-year-old cook as a cultural icon. “I share the immense joy of all Nigerians as Hilda Bassey Effiong (Hilda Baci) makes history by breaking the world record for the longest cooking marathon.”

The President calls the accomplishment a “great day for the country.” According to Mr. Buhari, her drive, ambition, and resilience have sparked great interest and insight into the uniqueness of Nigerian cuisine, and she deserves to be regarded as a cultural icon.

“We’re all very proud of what she has personally accomplished—and placing Nigeria in the global spotlight,” he tweeted on Monday afternoon. “I believe that this feat will inspire many more young people, in Nigeria and beyond, to follow in her footsteps.”

Despite the fact that Hilda was initially scheduled to cook for 96 hours, her team has declared that she would continue to cook until she reaches 100 hours at 8 p.m. Nigerian time.

Lagos state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was present at the scene of the event on Sunday to offer his support. “We are proud to have Hilda embarking on this journey in our state,” he said.
