Police identify suspects who heckled Emir Bayero with pro-Sanusi slogans

The Kano State Police Command says it has identified six suspects in connection with the booing of Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, by alleged loyalists of ex-Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf is reportedly planning to remove Mr Bayero and replace him with Mr Sanusi, who was deposed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in 2020.

But the state government had since denied any plot to remove the emir.

During the reopening of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital by the governor on Sunday, some groups of youth had chanted pro-Sanusi slogans when Mr Bayero was entering the venue of the event.

The youths had chanted “Sabon Sarki, Sabon Governor”, meaning new governor should have a new emir in the state.

But while responding to journalists’ questions, the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Gumel, said the police had got the report and identified six persons in connection with the crime.

The CP, who was on a visit to Kano Correspondents’ Chapel on Monday, identified the suspects as Salman Dandago, Faruku Kanindanga, Sadiq Kurkukus, Dan Fari, Dan Baki and Tasi’u Waru.

According to Mr Gumel, the suspects were identified after the command had obtained video clips of the incident.

While calling on the suspects to submit themselves to the police, Mr Gumel alleged that hoodlums might have been either sponsored or committed the act out of ignorance.

“A question was raised on the event of yesterday of Inauguration the Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital.

“The event had His Excellency the executive governor in attendance. At the tail end of the event, some miscreants having organized themselves were heard chanting words that will destabilize the process.

“If you can recall, in my speech, I told you that we are going to deploy technology to detect crimes and criminality in the state.

“So, those group of people were not even invited to the event, they were intruders who came on their own. They were sponsored by someone with a particular interest.

“So these people formed themselves in an unorganized manner to form an Unlawful Assembly. Everybody knows unlawful assembly as a criminal activity with which they disrupted the process.

“We have used our detective camera to look at the footage. Already six persons have since been identified. Among these six persons we have one Salman Dandago, Faruku Kanindanga, Sadiq Kurkukus, Dan Fari, Dan Baki and Tasu’u Waru,” Mr Gumel said.
