The Nigeria Police Force has taken disciplinary actions against three officers who allegedly extorted 3,000 USDT from a Port Harcourt resident.

Inspector Michael Odey has been dismissed from duty. ASP Doubara Edonyabor and ASP Talent Mungo have been suspended pending further investigation.

Grace Iringe-Koko, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, announced these disciplinary actions in a statement on Sunday, saying the disciplinary measures were issued by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

Inspector Michael Odey had already been dismissed earlier, effective from 07/02/2024, following thorough proceedings and a review by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 16.

ASP Doubara Edonyabor and ASP Talent Mungo’s suspension was officially authorised by the Police Service Commission, effective from 29/02/2024. Their salaries have been halted pending further action.

The suspended officers will face the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), responsible for addressing disciplinary issues involving senior officers. Updates on other cases involving these officers will be provided soon.

The allegations surfaced when a human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, accused the officers of extortion via a social media post on X. He claimed they arrested a man, extorted $3,000, and transported him across states before dumping him in Port Harcourt.

The Rivers State Police Command responded, confirming the identification of the officers. The indicted policemen were arrested during the ongoing investigation.

The police spokesperson assured the public that the outcome of the investigation would be disclosed.
