Manchester City’s Phil Foden was honoured as the Premier League Player of the Season on Saturday to recognize his performances in the 2023/2024 season.

Foden’s impressive tally of 17 goals and 7 assists were enough to beat strong competition from Arsenal’s big-money signing Declan Rice and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

The Englishman, who rose through the ranks of the City academy, had to bid his time to become a permanent feature in Pep Guardiola’s first team. That patience paid off this season, particularly in 2024, when he led the Cityzens’ push for a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Foden produced strong performances domestically and in European competitions, and his performances helped transform potential draws into victories.

“What a week! So honoured to receive these prestigious awards! Thank you to everyone who voted for me, to the City staff and coaches, my family and of course, my teammates,” Foden wrote on X.

Recently, Foden was awarded the Football Writers’ Association Football Player of the Year 2024. He is now on course to sweep all the awards after being nominated for the PFA Player of the Year.

“I’m delighted with the way I’ve played so far this season and it wouldn’t have been possible without those around me.”

Foden’s feat means that a Manchester City player has received the Premier League Player of the Year award for the last five years, joining an elite list that includes Kevin De Bruyne, Haaland and Ruben Dias.
