A violent confrontation broke out involving supporters of two rival aspirants from the All Progressives Congress on Saturday at Ward 1 of Stella Maris College in Okitipupa.

According to reports, the confrontation broke out between two major aspirants competing to become the party’s representative in the November 16 Ondo State gubernatorial election.

Party members who had gathered in large numbers for early accreditation and voting fled when clashes erupted between the supporters of the two aspirants.

The violence broke out before the accreditation and voting process commenced, prompting voters to flee for safety.

Per an anonymous accredited voter, one of the aspirants’ agents allegedly seized the validation and accreditation papers for the ward and fled the scene.

“One of the agents came here, snatched the validation and accreditation papers and ran away with his car. He was chased but could not be apprehended. This is what caused the violence,” he said.

The security agents at the ward were unable to contain the violence and everyone fled the scene.
