Oby Ezekwesili Warns Nigerian and Kenyan Leaders: Don’t Push Citizens Too Far

Former Education Minister, Oby Ezekwesili, cautioned leaders in Nigeria and Kenya against using heavy-handed tactics with their citizens.

In a post on X, Ezekwesili remarked that it is unwise for leaders to push their people to the breaking point.

She questioned whether recent events would prompt Nigerian and Kenyan leaders to learn the right lessons.

According to Ezekwesili: “It is unwise as a Leader to push your Citizens to the point where they say, “Enough is simply now Enough”.

“According to Proverbs, Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding”.

“Will Hubris allow the contemporaries of Kenyan politicians in Nigeria and the rest of the continent to learn the right lesson from recent events?

“I won’t bet on it because Wisdom is the principal thing.”

Her comment is coming after some Kenyans took to the streets to protest against President Williams Ruto’s decision regarding the Finance Bill 2024.

The aggrieved Kenyans also protested against their government’s tax increment plan, saying it would increase their financial burden as many of them still struggle to get by.

Ruto had earlier called protesters’ actions “treasonous”, which led the government to deploy soldiers to disperse them.

He, however, bowed to the protesters and declined assent to the proposed legislation.
