he National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized a substantial amount of illegal drugs and substances in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), valued at N125.71 million.

The NDLEA Commander for the region, Kabir Tsakuwa, revealed the details of the 2023 operation that led to the seizure of 7,345kg worth of illicit drugs.

According to Mr Tsakuwa, the intercepted drugs include cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy, methamphetamine, rohypnol, tramadol, Pentazocine, heroin and megadon.

He stated that additional drugs found in 2023 included 133.753 kg of Tramadol, 29.629 kg of Diazepam, 4.587 kg of Methamphetamine, 5.934 kg of Rohyphol, and 0.5 kg of Cocaine.

The remaining illegal substances that were seized, according to Mr. Tsakuwa, were pentazocine (21.727 kg), heroin (0.002 kg), megadon (0.263 kg), and ecstasy (0.134 kg).

“All the illicit drugs and substances intercepted were with the street value of N125, 714, 620 million,” he said.

During the period under review, 640 suspects—614 males and 26 females—were arrested, according to the NDLEA commander.

According to Mr. Tsakuwa, of the total, 264 cases are still pending in the Federal High Court of Abuja, while 295 of the suspects were charged and 201 of them were found guilty.

Regarding rehabilitation, he stated that during the year in question, 175 drug users—172 of whom were men and three of whom were women—were counseled and assisted in reintegrating into society.
