The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has cautioned drivers to adhere to speed limits while traveling on the recently repaired extensive stretch of the Third Mainland Bridge.

This caution was communicated through a statement released by the agency’s spokesperson, Adebayo Toafiq, on Wednesday.

Toafiq emphasized the importance of drivers obeying all traffic signs and utilizing the installed technological traffic equipment.

The Lagos State Government previously announced the scheduled reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge on Thursday, April 4, 2024, as stated by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, via his official account on X on Saturday.

The statement read, “Dear Lagos residents, We’re pleased to share that the Third Mainland Bridge will resume full operations on April 4, 2024, following extensive repairs.

In late March, the National Assembly Joint Committee on Works examined the repair progress of the bridge and other Federal Government initiatives in Lagos.

Taofiq highlighted that, to ensure the safety of drivers and swift rescue operations on the bridge, LASTMA would deploy staff, patrol vehicles, and recovery vehicles on the bridge.

He said, “The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has warned motorists to maintain speed limits while driving on the long stretch of the newly renovated Third Mainland Bridge linking the Mainland and other parts of the state.

“Motorists must be conscious of time and plan their journey ahead to avoid unnecessary speeding while using the bridge and other link roads across the state.

“The agency would deploy more men and patrol and recovery vehicles to ensure the safety of motorists and timely rescue intervention on the bridge.”
