The Lagos State Government has successfully completed its 2024 Hajj exercise, marking the safe return of the last group of pilgrims from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

Hon. Ibrahim Layode, Lagos State Commissioner of Home Affairs and Amir-ul-Hajj, announced this achievement, noting that the final batch of 401 pilgrims and 11 officials arrived at Muritala Mohammed International Airport aboard Flynas flight XY9066.

Among them were 144 pilgrims from Lagos and 257 from Osun State.

Layode expressed satisfaction with the pilgrims’ conduct during their journey and acknowledged minor challenges encountered.

He mentioned plans for a Post Hajj Conference by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to address these issues collaboratively with stakeholders.

Appreciating the support of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr. Kadiri Hamzat, and Saudi authorities, Layode credited their contributions to the exercise’s success.

Special Adviser Dr. Abdullahi Jebe Ahmad and Board Chairman Imam Shakiru Gafar also lauded the state government and pilgrims for their cooperation, anticipating an improved operation in the coming years.

The 2024 Hajj exercise involved airlifting around 1,869 pilgrims from Lagos State, with the return journey concluding on July 3, ensuring pilgrims returned safely, except for the unfortunate passing of Oloshogbo Isiaka Idris.
