The Lagos State government has announced a new collaboration with the Dutch-owned Harvest Waste Consortium to develop a waste-to-energy plant, which will generate electricity for around 40,000 homes.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that the plant will process 2,250 tonnes of waste daily, converting it into 60-75 megawatts of electricity.

The project also aims to convert the city’s waste into a significant energy resource.

“This project is a significant milestone as it will generate energy internally for the benefit of our residents,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

The waste-to-energy plant is part of Lagos State’s larger strategy to embrace sustainable practices and curb environmental pollution.

The initiative anticipates to offer several advantages, such as better waste management, decreased dependence on fossil fuels, and a consistent electricity supply for thousands of homes.
