KUST Students’ Crisis: NANS offers to offset Debt

NEWS DIGEST – The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has written to the Vice Chancellor of Kano State University of Science and Technology, Professor Alhaji Musa offering to pay a seventeen thousand naira damage fee imposed on students of the institution.
In the letter obtained by the NEWS DIGEST, President of NANS, Mr. Chinonso Obasi said this move became necessary after appeal by the Students for the Vice Chancellor to halt the collection of the damage fee due to harsh Economic Condition was not listened to.
Mr. Chinonso Obasi also said the University should forthwith stop collection of the said amount stating that National Association of Nigerian Students has taken over the debt.
He said this decision was reached at the 117th General meeting of the body.
The management of the Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST), Wudil in Kano State closed down the school in May following  students’ protest over the death of their colleague, Faruk Abubakar, a 300 level student of Biology Education who drowned while swimming at River Wudil.
