Anambra State Police have recover three more bodies from boat tragedy, including Nollywood star Junior Pope Odonwodo.

Earlier reports indicated Jnr Pope and others drowned in Anam River after their boat capsized during a film shoot.

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) reported that out of the 12 individuals, seven were rescued, two were found deceased, and three – two females and one male – were reported missing.

However, Anambra State Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Friday, disclosed that the police have recovered the bodies of the three missing Nollywood stars.

“Two of the bodies were recovered yesterday, 11 April 2024 while the last was washed in by the tide this (Friday) morning.

“All the bodies have been deposited in a hospital mortuary in Asaba while the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (Emeka Rollas) has been notified of the recovery,” he said.

The statement did not disclose the identities of the deceased persons whose bodies were found.

Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Aderemi Adeoye, urged all water travelers to prioritize safety and refrain from actions that may endanger their own lives or the lives of others while traveling on water.
