HIV: Kemi Olunloyo lists red danger zones as 250 persons reportedly contract virus in Lagos

NEWS DIGEST – Kemi Olunloyo, Nigerian investigative journalist, have disclosed that the rate of HIV victims in Lagos is on the rise.

Kemi, the daughter of Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former Oyo state governor, revealed this on her verified Twitter account on Sunday.

She specified Lekki, Ajah, Sangotedo areas in Lagos as a danger zone and warned those who have had unprotected sex in the last six months to be at higher risk of contracting the virus.

HIV is Human Immunodeficiency Virus that damages the cells in your immune system and weakens your ability to fight everyday infections and disease.

The virus can be transmitted through contact with infected blood, semen or vaginal fluids.

Within a few weeks of HIV infection, flu-like symptoms such as fever, sore throat and fatigue can occur. Then the disease is usually asymptomatic until it progresses to AIDS. AIDS symptoms include weight loss, fever or night sweats, fatigue and recurrent infections.

Kemi Olunloyo tweeted, “Get TESTED for HIV if you live in Lekki, Ajah, Sangotedo and you’ve had unprotected sex last 6 months. Almost 250 people have tested positive. Some tell me they are transmitting it to others KNOWINGLY. Men infecting wives, girlfriends. These 18-25yo prostitutes are infecting ppl.”

In another tweet, the journalist once again laid emphasis on the rampant spread of the virus.

While calling the attention of the Lagos state government to it, she said, “Today I warned you that all these Lekki girls involved in prostitution have killer vaginas, they came out cursing me out. There is a major spread of the virus on the island. @LSMOH pls be vigilant. Anyone who had unprotected sex in the last 6 mos needs testing ASAP.”

Although, there is currently no cure for HIV, but there are very effective drug treatments that enable most people with the virus to live a long and healthy life.
