Hisbah seizes ‘Burkutu’, other alcoholic drinks in Jigawa

NEWS DIGEST – The Hisbah Command in Jigawa (an Islamic religion policing force designed to uphold community morals) has intercepted eight 25-litre jerry cans of a local alcoholic drink, popularly known as “Burkutu”.

The interception was made in Maigatari Local Government Area of the state where the Command also seized 96 bottles of assorted alcoholic drinks on Tuesday.

The Hisbah Commander in Jigawa, Ibrahim Dahiru, told the News Agency of Nigeria about the seizure on Tuesday in Dutse.

He said the Command’s operatives seized the drinks at about 3:30 a.m. when they raided the area where assorted barbecue meat is also consumed.

He explained that the items were confiscated from one Garba Bakule who operates the revelling spot.

The commander enjoined residents to be law-abiding as the consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in all parts of the state.

Mr Dahiru said the suspect has been handed over to the police for further action.

He also commended residents for their support and cooperation with the Hisbah board.

The Hisbah commander assured that the command would continue to fight against immoral acts in all parts of the state.
