Soldier dies in flood while rescuing woman

NEWS DIGEST – A flood caused by heavy rainfall in Kebbi State weekend killed 10 people including a soldier. Daily Trust reports

The remains of five of the victims were recovered after the heavy downpour at Kanya in Danko Wasagu and Mahuta in Fakai Local Government Areas of the state.

The soldier was said to have died while trying to rescue a woman from the flood.

The village head of Kanya, Alhaji Isah Dan Hassan told Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu during his visit to some of the affected areas that many houses and property, including livestock and farmlands.

The governor, at Kanya, said he learnt of the incidents while on an official engagement in Abuja, but decided to have on-the-spot assessment.

The chairman of Fakai Local Government, Musa Rabiu Jarma, said the bridge linking the town had collapsed.

He also stated over 48 houses were destroyed.
