Sheikh Gumi blasts Ganduje, demands Kano Gov.’s resignation

NEWS DIGEST–The Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has again come hard on Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano over his repeated denial of the videos showing him collecting bribe in hard foreign currencies from contractors.
Recall that following repeated denial of the authenticity of the videos by Mr Ganduje and his allies, the governor had on Thursday filed a suit against DAILY NIGERIAN newspaper and its Publisher, Jaafar Jaafar, demanding for a payment of N3 billion as damages for the defamation of his character.
However, the cleric, during a preaching session at Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna on Thursday, emphasised that the videos are real.
According to him, the governor had actually collected the bribe and should resign immediately.
“A bribe was collected by a Muslim governor in the most populous Muslim state in a form that left nobody in doubt. They (DAILY NIGERIAN) said they have more than one videos of him collecting this bribe…. But this man (Ganduje) refused to resign even as the newspaper informed the public that they are in possession of these videos.
“Ganduje should have stepped down immediately. If it were to be a white man, the moment he gets the wind of these videos, he would have simply resigned….. Instead, he took our religious leaders to President Buhari to convince him that the video is fake or doctored.
“These Ulamas are indeed exhibited double-standard attitude. That is why you see them hanging around any leader that comes. They are not principled enough to say the truth as it is.
“Now, if he does resign on his own volition, the state assembly should, for the sake of uplifting Islam, impeach him and get him prosecuted for the crime.”
