Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on his supporters to remain peaceful and not respond to any form of intimidation. This appeal was made during the flag-off ceremony for the reconstruction of the 5km Okania-Ogbogoro road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, part of the activities marking his first anniversary in office.

The Governor’s plea comes in response to threats by some council chairmen to remain in office, peacefully or forcibly, beyond June 16. This follows a controversial amendment to the Local Government Law by the Martin Amaewhule-led Assembly, which extended their three-year tenure by six months. A High Court in Port Harcourt has since nullified this amendment, a ruling supported by two council chairmen aligned with Governor Fubara.

Governor Fubara criticized these attempts to incite anarchy, labeling them as distractions. He emphasized his commitment to enhancing governance in the state. Drawing an analogy to the eagle’s tactic when attacked by crows, he stated that raising the bar of governance would weaken his critics.

In addition to the 5km road project, Governor Fubara pledged to revamp Ogbogoro Secondary School, provide a health center, and consider constructing the community’s internal roads, as requested by Chijioke Ihunwo, leader of his support group in Obio/Akpor Local Government. Furthermore, he granted the request of the King of Akpor Kingdom, a first-class traditional ruler, to build a standard palace for the kingdom.
