Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, took the oath of office on Wednesday for their second term of four years in office.

On Wednesday, Bayelsa governor Douye Diri and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, took the oath of office for a second four-year term.

At the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Chief Judge of Bayelsa, Justice Matilda Ayemieye, administered the oath of office and loyalty to Mr. Diri and Mr. Ewhrudjakpo.

Shortly after taking the oath of office, Mr. Diri thanked the electorate for choosing him to serve a second term in office.

“We did not just count the four years that past, but we made the years truly count by prudent use of public funds.

“We did not abandon any project; we completed inherited projects and initiated new ones, and we created opportunities for the people of Bayelsa,” he said.

Mr Diri committed to complete the two roads, Nembe-Brass Road and the Yenagoa-Oporoma Road.

He promised a consistent supply of power and portable water, and he committed to giving agriculture a priority during his second term.

The governor aimed to maintain public support, particularly from the legislature and judiciary, in order to foster an environment that would be more favorable for more state development projects.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former President Goodluck Jonathan were among the dignitaries in attendance.

Others included former governor Seriake Dickson, vice president of Liberia Jeremiah Boakai, and a few governors who were currently in office.
