A Russian oil refinery in the Volgograd region faced a fire following an alleged drone assault attributed to Ukraine.

Governor Andrei Bocharov reported that air defense and electronic jamming thwarted the attack in Kalachyovsky and Zakanalye districts. The Volgograd refinery ignited after a downed drone incident, but the fire was swiftly contained.

Lukoil, the industry giant managing the refinery, claimed no injuries. The plant, situated south of Volgograd, is a key player in oil product production for the federal South district. Photos from the attack were published by local media V1, depicting an overnight explosion.

Witnesses reported hearing two explosions. The Russian army asserted that air defense measures neutralized four drones in Belgorod, two in Volgograd, and one in Rostov-on-Don.

“Last night, the air defence and electronic jamming repelled an attack by drones in the Volgograd region’s Kalachyovsky and Zakanalye districts,” governor Andrei Bocharov said on Telegram.

“A fire started at the Volgograd refinery after one of the downed drones fell,” he said, adding that the fire service had already brought the blaze under control by the start of the morning.
