The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha, has presented cheques worth N39m to the 25 families of deceased officers on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

SP William Aya, the command’s spokesperson, made this announcement in a statement on Thursday.

He said that while the CP was presenting the cheques on Wednesday, he disclosed that “the gesture was part of the Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Insurance Schemes aimed at improving the welfare of the families of deceased police officers and to also support police officers who became accident victims while carrying out their duty.”

According to the CP, the gesture also served as a reminder to other active-duty officers to exercise diligence.

“The Nigeria Police Force recognises the sacrifices made by the deceased officers as well as those who are accident victims to secure the nation,” the CP said.

He pleaded with the recipients to use the funds wisely and for their families’ benefit rather than abusing them.

The recipients expressed gratitude to the IG for the kindness and pledged to use the funds for their families’ sake.
