The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, emphasized the significance of incorporating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) from corporate organizations alongside professional codes for internal auditors nationwide.

Speaking at the Annual Induction and Fellowship Award of the Society for West African Audit Practitioners (SWAIAP) in Lagos, Olukoyede underscored the role of internal auditors as financial gatekeepers, stressing the need for a balance between professionalism and adherence to SOPs to enhance their effectiveness. 

He highlighted the pivotal role of internal auditors in enforcing quality, standards, and an efficient internal control system to prevent financial fraud and errors. Olukoyede also urged internal auditors to have comprehensive access to their work environments for informed decision-making. 

Additionally, he assured SWAIAP of continued collaboration in the fight against economic and financial crimes, encouraging the organization to actively engage its members in professional and social responsibilities to aid corporate objectives. 

The event also featured discussions on instilling ethical principles and value systems in both private and public organizations as a means to combat corruption.
