Super Eagles drop in latest FIFA ranking

NEWS DIGEST -The Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped one spot in the latest FIFA ranking released by the world football governing body on Tuesday.

In the ranking released on FIFA’s official website (FIFA.com), Nigeria dropped from 47th to 48th position in the world. Also, the Super Eagles dropped from 6th in Africa to 7th place.

The drop on the hierarchy does not come as a surprise with the three time African champions losing three of their last five games.

Incidentally, none of Nigeria’s group D opponents in the World Cup climbed up the ladder in the ranking. Argentina remain 5th in the world, while Croatia dropped two places from 18th to 20th. World Cup debutants Iceland maintain 22nd position.

In other parts of the ranking, Germany maintain their slot at first position, with Brazil in second, Belgium in third, Portugal fourth and Argentina fifth place.

In sixth place sits Switzerland while France is seventh. Poland moved up two spots from 10th to 8th while Chile retain their 9th place, and Spain round up the top ten with the final position.
