A report on the Samoa loan agreement published by Daily Trust has been refuted by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to Onanuga, the report titled “LGBT: Nigeria Signs $150 Billion Samoa Deal” is inaccurate.

The report claimed that Minister of Budget and Planning, Atiku Bagudu, signed a deal containing clauses requiring participating countries to recognize LGBT rights.

It quoted Sonnie Ekwowusi of the African Bar Association alleging that the Samoa agreement compromises Nigeria’s sovereignty by legalizing LGBT rights, transgenderism, abortion, and other controversial issues.

However, Onanuga argued that the report should have been discarded after Bolaji Adebiyi, Media Assistant to the Minister of Budget and Planning, refuted these claims.

Adebiyi clarified that the Samoa agreement is solely an economic pact aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s economic development, with no provisions related to LGBT rights or any other controversial social issues.

Onanuga criticized Daily Trust for persisting with a story that, according to him, was debunked by Adebiyi’s statement.

He suggested that the newspaper’s decision to continue publishing the story reflects a bias against the Tinubu government rather than a commitment to accurate reporting.
