Ousmane Dembele put up a man-of-the-match performance to dispatch Barcelona in a thrilling UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday night.

Despite entering the match with a 3-2 deficit, Paris Saint-Germain managed to turn the tie around and secure their place in the semi-finals with a 5-4 aggregate victory.

Dembele, a French international, returned to his former home ground in Barcelona on Tuesday amid controversy that trailed his decision to celebrate his goal in the previous fixture, which took place last Wednesday.

Dembele was met with placards of harsh criticism from spectators gathered outside the stadium and constantly received a chorus of boos when he was on the ball during the game.

However, Dembele’s contribution was not deterred by the hostile reception as he scored the crucial equalising goal that reinvigorated a PSG side that was already looking at elimination after Raphinha’s early goal to put Barcelona up 4-2 on aggregate.

Dembele’s pivotal goal came just eleven minutes after Araujo was shown a red card for a foul on Barcola, who had a clear run at Ter Stergen’s goal.

He capped off an impressive performance, where he largely created the initiative for his team, by winning a penalty for PSG’s third goal on the night. The penalty was expertly converted by Kylian Mbappe, who added a second to finish the 2nd leg 4-1.
