NEWS DIGEST – A Makurdi Magistrates’s court on Wednesday remanded two persons, Abum Torgever and Friday Akerior, of different addresses over alleged criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Theresa Wergba, ordered the accused persons to be remanded at the Federal Prison in Makurdi after their plea was not taken for want of jurisdiction.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP. Hyacinth Gbakor, told the court that the incident was reported by one Vanen Tegh-tegh of Zaki-Biam at Katsina-Ala Police Station, Benue, on Dec. 1, 2018.

He said the complainant reported that he was driving along Zaki-Biam to Katsina-Ala in his red corolla car with registration number MKD 22 XM when he was attacked.

He said when he arrived at Aule-Gbar village, a group of young men on Bajaj motorcycle with AK 47 rifles and other weapons robbed him of his vehicle valued at N1.5 million

He alleged that the hoodlums also attacked other motorists and robbed them of unknown amount of money and valuable items.

The Police investigating officer also said gunshots were fired sporadically thereby killing one Mtsumega Joseph and Matthew Ali of different addresses in Katsina-Ala and Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

During police investigation, one Abum Torgever and Friday Akerior were arrested for committing the crime.

Prosecutor said the offences contravened Section 6(b) 1(1) (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provision Act 2004.

The case was adjourned until March 6, 2019 for further mention (NAN)
