A Sharia Court in Kano State headed by Nura Yusuf Ahmad has mandated that Murja Ibrahim Kunya, a prominent TikToker, undergo a psychiatric assessment at a government hospital to determine her mental state. The judge expressed concern over her apparent lack of soundness during previous court appearances, suspected to be influenced by drugs.

Murja was brought to court on Tuesday by Department of State Services operatives. She had been arrested by the state Hisbah board on February 13 and charged with inciting public disturbance, belonging to a criminal gang, and criminal intimidation following numerous complaints from the public alleging her involvement in midnight disturbances and incitement.

After news of her release from detention sparked public outcry, the Kano State government clarified that she was taken out of detention for further investigation into fresh allegations. She resides in Tishama of Hotoro Quarters Kano and stands trial on multiple charges, including influencing children into prostitution.

The prosecution, led by Aminu Abdullahi, cited viral videos where Murja allegedly claimed leadership of all prostitutes in the city, further reinforcing the charges against her. Murja pleaded not guilty to the accusations.

During the recent court session, the presiding judge ruled that Murja would remain in the custody of the Kano State Hisbah Board, with periodic updates on her condition provided to the court. The case has been adjourned until May 20 for further proceedings.
