Don’t compel UTME candidates to buy past Questions/Answers, Oloyede warns CBT owners

NEWS DIGEST–The Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishiaq Oloyede, has warned all its accredited Computer Based Test centres against forcing prospective candidates of its Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination to buy past questions, papers saying such act is criminal and attracts penalty.
Oloyede issued the warning yesterday at a stakeholders’ meeting held with CBT centre owners and operators in Lagos.
According to him, the warning has become expedient as many of the CBT centres had been found in the past publishing fake past UTME questions while also compelling the prospective candidates to buy such from them as preconditions for registration.
“In one instance, we found someone reprinting our past questions in 1978 while calling it the 2018 questions and they are selling it at N2000 each. The innocent candidates were also buying it. So, we are warning you to desist from it. You are not cybercafe operators.
“Anybody who does would be caught and when you are caught, you will be arrested and when arrested, you will be prosecuted and you will no longer be part of us. I have also engaged students’ groups to be on the lookout for anyone they find selling past questions or charging fees we did not authorize. I asked that they drag such person either to the police or civil defence. I will give them my support,” Prof. Oloyede said.
The JAMB registrar also issued a number of other warnings to the CBT centres’ operators, including not transferring access codes to other persons, transferring of registered router to other persons or places, guarding against shady deals in the registration process, among others.
