According to reports, Chelsea has abandoned plans to pursue Victor Osimhen, a striker for Napoli, in January.

Currently, Chelsea’s first priority is to sign a new attacker because Armando Broja and Christopher Nkunku have both had major injuries in the last year, leaving them without much support behind Nicolas Jackson.

Jackson has also had a rough start to life at Stamford Bridge. He was recently benched, but he was able to get back into the starting lineup and score three goals for Chelsea in a 4–4 tie with Manchester City and a hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur on the road.

According to Football London, considering the amount they would probably have to spend to get Osimhen, a trade for the player is unlikely to be completed during the season.

The club paid a nine-figure fee to bring Enzo Fernandez to the club last January, but appear reluctant to fork out a similar sum this time around.

Ivan Toney is also on their shortlist of options, and will demand a lower fee, with the Brentford striker likely to leave the club after he returns from his current eight-month suspension for breaches of gambling rules.

However, the report states that Chelsea remain undecided about whether they will enter the market for a new striker in January, or wait until next summer.

This is partially because Nkunku is scheduled to make his first-team comeback very soon, and the squad is hoping he can perform well in a blue shirt.

Prior to his injury, Nkunku made his breakthrough into the fiercely competitive French national team and scored 58 goals in his final two seasons with RB Leipzig. However, he has struggled with fitness over the past 12 months.

Following his recovery from a significant knee injury, Broja has also shown to be a valuable alternative for Mauricio Pochettino.

The Albanian scored the penalty that sealed a draw with Man City the previous weekend.

Broja may have to reconsider his future at Chelsea if the club decides to bring in Osimhen or Toney, as he is currently playing as Jackson’s backup and Nkunku will shortly return.

Chelsea’s attacking prowess came under fire when they managed just 13 goals in their first 10 Premier League games of the year, seven of which came against Burnley and Luton Town.

Ultimately, though, they managed to exploit Ange Postecoglou’s extremely dangerous strategies when trailing nine men in their London Derby two weeks prior, as well as defeat the champions by four goals.

Jackson has contributed quite a few goals, but Cole Palmer, a recent addition to England, has also scored two goals and an assist in those two matches.
