Certificate Scandal: Those Questioning My School Attendance Are Mischievous – Adeleke

NEWS DIGEST – The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Osun State governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has faulted those questioning his educational qualification.

Senator Adeleke spoke to reporters on Thursday, hours after Justice David Oladimeji of the Osun State High Court in Osogbo dismissed the suit challenging his eligibility to contest the poll for lack of merit.

“Those questioning my attendance at the school are clearly being mischievous and deceptive,” the PDP candidate said at his country home in Ede town.

He added, “Let the fact sink that I was a very popular student of the school and a strong member of the alumni association. My schoolmates are here around me.”

Senator Adeleke, flanked by some of his schoolmates, described the dismissal of the suit against him as a true representation of the uprightness of the judiciary.

He was also happy that the judicial pronouncement has vindicated and confirmed his qualification and eligibility to contest the election.

The lawmaker further explained why he had refused to respond to the allegations since the matter was brought before the court in July.

He said, “I chose to remain quiet since the conclusion of the governorship primaries for two reasons; first is my unchanged belief in party supremacy and utmost respect for the leadership of our great party.

“The second reason is that the issue of my qualification and eligibility as a governorship candidate has been the subject of litigation until yesterday (Wednesday). Now that a judicial pronouncement confirming my qualification and eligibility to contest has been made, the time is now right to speak on the matter.”

Adeleke stressed that since the judiciary has intervened and resolved the matter, it was time for all PDP members and leaders to unite and work for victory in the September poll.

He urged members of the party to place the interest of the masses above personal considerations, noting that the people have high expectations and the party cannot afford to disappoint them.

On July 23, two PDP members, Rasheed Olatunji and Idowu Oluwaseun, approached the court contending that Senator Adeleke was not eligible to participate in the primary election of the party.

They had claimed the lawmaker does not possess the minimum required educational qualification and prayed the court to set the election aside.
