Police reported on Sunday that they had taken into custody a man who had crashed his car into the gates of Buckingham Palace in London over the weekend.

At 2:30 PM on Saturday, the car “collided with the gates” of the royal residence, according to the Metropolitan Police.

According to a force spokesperson, the man was taken to the hospital after being arrested by armed officers at the scene on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

The spokesperson said that no one was hurt and that investigations were still being conducted to determine the exact circumstances.

The official residence of the British royal family, Buckingham Palace, has strict security measures in place. Armed officers are always on the lookout for activity at this centrally located building.

There have been several prior attempts at breaking into the palace.

A 25-year-old man was taken into custody in September of last year after attempting to break into the royal stables.

A man was detained for hurling shotgun cartridges into Buckingham Palace grounds just before King Charles III was crowned in May of last year.

In the same month, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s residence, Downing Street, was guarded by gates that a 43-year-old man crashed his car into.
