Campus journalists hold regional convention in Akure

NEWS DIGEST – The umbrella body of student journalism, National Union of Campus Journalists, NUCJ Nigeria, over the weekend, held her regional convention for Southwest in the Federal University of Technology, Akure, between 28 November and 01 December, 2019.

The event which started on Thursday, with the arrival of delegates, was proceeded by a panel session and lecture led by the keynote speaker, Mr Olusola Akinbinu, the Executive Director at Centre for Innovative and Inclusive Development.

The young journalists also engaged in fact-checking training, facilitated by Ibrahim Alawode (Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism) and ‘Niyi Oyedeji (Nigeria Tribune).

The campus journalists  from 12 institutions, including Lagos State University, Adekunle Ajasin University, Moshood Abiola University, Adeyemi College of Education, Federal School of Statistics,  Olabisi Onabanjo University, and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology; in bid to mix fun with the learning process, visited the FUTA Wild Life Sanctuary and the Akure Tech Hub.

Hassan Abdulsalam, the Regional Secretary, described the convention a success, and appreciated all institutions that participated.

He further noted that the region will continue to take the fore course, being the first of the six regions to organize her convention.
Kareem Itunu Azeez, a delegate from Lagos State University, expressed pleasure and reported the convention as huge success, with a great mix of knowledge and fun.

The Vice President of the NUCJ, Taiwo Kafilat, who represented the President at the convention, commended the effort of the organizing committee and charged all institutions in the region to continue to promote the course of campus journalism.
